Sargam 2012 Go Green is not merely colour, It is an attitude... (October 5 & 7)

‘A phenomenon in itself, the gaudy and most awaited cultural extravaganza, SARGAM is an incredibly energy- beaming cultural fiesta that New Horizon Educational Institution has been organizing and hosting so successfully year after year. No wonder, today, it is widely admired.

This year, it had a special focus--there were all possible  shades of ‘Green’, with its theme being ‘Go Green’. In the two days, 100+ colleges and over 25,000 enthusiastic participants filled the atmosphere with sheer vivacity. This year’s basket of bounties carried the competitions under Performing Arts, Creative Act & Arts and as well as Business events to a new level.

The show stoppers were of course the Fashion show and loud music played over Juke Box and the grand DJ nite which had students on their feet continuously!

Mr.Suresh Heblikar, a well known environmentalist, writer, cine artist and also founder of Eco-Watch graced the fest as the Chief Guest. Ms.Spoorthy, a well known film actress was the celebrity guest, added charm to the occasion. As always Sargam 2012 – Go Green has brought the student community and all those involved together creating a sense of belonging and an attitude of oneness which is an absolute necessity in today’s life style. The main purpose of the having the theme Go Green was to give out a strong message that we need do our bit and work towards conservation of environment which is the base for every life form. This message was very beautifully and strongly conveyed by Mr.Suresh Hebilkar in his speech.

Ms.Spoorthy, our celebrity guest’s speech was very inspiring and motivating. She was very happy to mention that two years ago she was here for Sargam as a participant and recollected how she enjoyed every moment of it. She reminded everyone present that along with all the fun, we need to be conscious about our environment and avoid excess use and misuse of our resources.
This was followed by a unique mesmerizing, melodious performance of Green Music by a highly environment conservationist group named ‘Bamboo Symphony’ from Chalakudy, Kerala who captivated audience with harmonious celebration of nature. The group’s exceptionality lies in using bamboo exclusively for designing all musical instruments and even their attire.

The theme-based competitions organized on day 1 were most popular group dances (Contemporary, Western, Filmy, Classical), Face-painting, Sketching, Photography, Short Film and fabulous Fashion Show. Those hosted on day 2 were Street dance, Songs- solo and Group, Business Quotient, Best Manager, Product Launch, Ad design, Battle of Bands.

‘Go Green’ theme is of immense importance at regional, national and global levels. Through this forum, we at NHEI attempted to communicate, put forward our commitment towards nature, our natural resources, our willingness to grow higher with elements of sustainability and care for the five elements, the five pillars of creation, the building blocks of the Universe- Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether.  Terms like Green products, value addition, waste minimization, resourcefulness, reduce, reuse, recycle are the soothing apt terminology behind the care for nature.. these need to be impregnated and adopted in each of us. Thus, green is no more only a color.. it is attitude.

It is noteworthy that NHCE and NHC-K and M campuses have already taken a stride towards being green, being manifested through water harvesting and recycling, biowaste handling and paper recycling at NHCE campus. Significant efforts have been registered towards value addition and by-products harvesting, dry waste segregation through green means, setting up of Herbal Garden, green entrepreneurship by students’ efforts.

These two days brought in a huge variety of gala performances, challenging and electrifying spirit to showcase the best from each participant and thus deserving contestants emerged as winners and took away whopping cash prizes and certificates.

The show came to an end by giving a glimpse of what is in store under SARGAM 2013.The theme would be CARNIVAL wherein the stage shall be set in more colours of splendid celebration.
